The Food First Food Drive collects non-perishable food donations for the Samaritan House Food Bank in Brandon.

Donation bags will be distributed in the Westman Journal May 23rd. Fill the bag with food bank donations and leave on your doorstep on the morning of Saturday, May 25th.

Volunteers will drive throughout Brandon to collect the donations and sort them at Physiofirst 1129 19th street for donaiton to the Samaritan House Food Bank

Jumpstart Day

On Jumpstart Day, select Canadian Tire stores across the country will celebrate and raise additional funds for Jumpstart with special events and activities for customers. At Brandon’s Canadian Tire (1655-18th Street), customers will be asked for a donation to participate in games and a BBQ. All money raised will be donated to Jumpstart, helping Canadian kids get involved in organized sport.

Donations to Jumpstart help the one in three Canadian families that cannot afford to enrol their children in organized sports and recreation. All funds raised through the May Red Ball campaign and on Jumpstart Day stay within the local community to help local children. To date, 1,559 children in Brandon have been able to participate in sports and recreation because of Jumpstart.

Over the past eight years, Jumpstart has helped more than 580,000 kids across Canada by removing the financial barriers that prevent children from participating.

Canadian Tire invites the Brandon community to get involved and make a difference in the lives of local kids.

City of Brandon Community Curbside Give-Away Weekend

The event encourages individuals to offer their quality used items for free to their neighbours and the wider community as a way to keep them out of the landfill.

To participate, simply place your giveaway items near the curb and mark them "free". Remember to tuck away your personal items so they aren't mistaken for free giveaways (eg. bicycles, strollers, toys).

All items must be removed from the curbside by 5pm Sunday, May 26th

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries MS Walk will be held on Sunday, May 26 at the Victoria Inn, Imperial Ballroom.

Walk registration opens at 8:00am and commences at 10:00am. Route lengths are 3k and 5k - many parts of which wind along Brandon's main walking paths. The route is accessible to everyone so bring wheelchairs, strollers, and scooters and don't forget the family dog!

There are auctions nightly and prizes for all with free breakfasts and supper for all golfers.

This year's Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is Friday June 14th at the Keystone Centre.

Sign your team up now for a fun filled night. The event kicks off at 6 p.m..

8-10 people are need per team for 12 hours of festivities.

Little Valley Jamboree

The Annual Little Valley Jamboree is set for June 15th and 16th in Erickson, MB. The Jamboree is a non-profit fund-raising event to provide assistance to special needs children and to raise awareness of their daily challenges and obstacles. The Jamboree presents two days of live music and entertainment with auctions, raffles and our famous Money Mountain for children. Jamoboree 2 pm-12 am on Saturday and 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday.

Adults $15
Students $10
12 and under free

Food and refreshment booth on site. Camping available. Please bring lawn chairs.

2nd Annual Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Ride

The Defenders Motorcycle Club Chapter 19 from Brandon MB will host their 2nd Annual Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Ride on Sat, 22 Jun 13.

Registration will start at 11:45 am at Headingley Sport Shop in Headingley and depart for Brandon at 12:45. There will also be Registration at the West End Tim Hortons in Portage La Prairie commencing at 12:15 and will depart at 2:00 pm. Registration cost will be $20.00 which will include a patch and all proceeds will go to Valour Place - A Military Family Support House. Anyone wishing to join the Defenders for the ride to Headingley can meet them at the Hwy 1 Tim Hortons in Brandon for an 08:00 am departure time.

The 59th annual Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede

The 59th annual Threshermen’s Reunion offers something for everyone. This year we are pleased to present both Massey (All Massey lines) and Horsepower as our Expo features.

All museum exhibit buildings are open, including 20 in the Homesteaders Village. A free grandstand show each afternoon features a parade of vintage farm equipment and contests such as a stooking and sheaf tying demo, and a threshing competition between gas and steam driven threshing machines. There is a rodeo each evening including Sunday, and the evening ends with free dance on an open air dance floor.

Reunion Daily Admission Rates:

Adults – $15 – (4 day pass available for $50)
Students (12 years of age to any age with valid student card) – $8.00 (4 day pass $25)
Children (6 years of age to 12 years of age) - $8.00

BDO Canada LLP is proud to present the Westman Corporate Challenge, of which buisnesses in Brandon will compete in Olympic-style events in various sporting and mental challanges in the evenings and on the weekend for one week in September. This year, the Corporate Challenge will be held September 10th to 14th. The events for 2013 that the businesses will be competing in are:
