Album Review

While it's easy to dismiss Danny and the Juniors as a one-hit wonder due to the mega-success of "At the Hop," this 20-track collection of their best sides makes a strong case them as a top-notch doo-wop group at the dawn of rock's golden age. Combining their ABC-Paramount and Swan sides, tracks like "Sometimes," "Rock'n'Roll Is Here to Stay," "Dottie," "In the Meantime," "Crazy Cave," "Sassy Fran," and "I Feel So Lonely" are Philly doo wop at its best, street accents intact. While it's true the group went to the well once too often in search of another hit, this is still marvelous period music that deserves a much wider hearing.
