This 1985 LP is an excellent showcase for vibraphonist Jay Hoggard. He performs Thelonious Monk's "Brilliant Corners," and Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life," and five of his diverse originals with a quintet also including keyboardist Onaje Allan Gumbs, guitarist Vernon Reid, bassist Jerome Harris and drummer Pheeroan akLaff. The inside/outside music is never predictable and inspires Hoggard to some of his best playing of the period.
